Dating to the 1st–2nd century AD, this period encompasses the height of the Roman Empire, marked by territorial expansion, political consolidation, and the flourishing of imperial iconography. The eagle was emblematic of Jupiter, the king of all Gods in Roman mythology, and the might of Rome. The eagle motif was prominently associated with the Roman army and was used to signify loyalty, power and divine favour. Military standards, which represented the unity and identity of individual legions, reinforced the disciplined structure of Rome’s formidable army.

Such a ring would likely have belonged to a high-ranking official, possibly a military officer or a person of significant political stature, underscoring the intimate relationship between Rome’s elite and its military might.
