Minerva was the Roman goddess of wisdom, justice and war and is often depicted holding a statue of Victory with a shield. She was also goddess of the arts. Her image was a popular choice for intaglio rings, serving as both an amulet of protection and a declaration of intellectual and martial prowess. Minerva is the Roman equivalent of the Greek goddess Pallas Athene.
