Minerva was the Roman goddess of wisdom, justice and war and is often depicted holding a spear and shield. Her image was a popular choice for intaglio rings, serving as both an amulet of protection and a declaration of intellectual and martial prowess. Minerva was also the sponsor of the arts, trade and strategy. Minerva is the Roman equivalent of the Greek goddess Athena.
