Created around the late 19th century, this ring belongs to the late Victorian era, a period in which jewellery was rich in sentiment and symbolism. During Queen Victoria's reign, jewels were treasured not only for their beauty but also for the meanings they carried, with coloured gemstones and carefully considered designs often chosen to express personal affection.

Alternating rubies and diamonds was a particularly romantic choice. Rubies have long symbolised passion, vitality and enduring love, while diamonds were associated with purity, strength and permanence.
