Old mine diamonds are primarily cut in cushion shapes in accordance with the natural outlines of the rough crystal. When the rough crystal rises above the norm, like in this diamond, a skilled cutter can divert from the norm and cut an elongated old mine diamond. These are particularly scarce and highly sought after.
