Established in Paris in 1901 by the Lacloche brothers, Lacloche Frères became one of the most celebrated jewellery houses of the early twentieth century. Celebrated for their masterful craftsmanship and imaginative designs, the maison worked with some of Paris’s finest workshops creating jewels often inspired by Eastern art, nature and mythology. Their creativity reached its height during the Art Deco period, culminating in a Grand Prix at the 1925 Paris Exposition, where they exhibited jewels inspired by the fables of Jean de La Fontaine.
The horseshoe motif, traditionally associated with good fortune, protection and prosperity, had long been popular in sentimental jewellery. During the 1920s, this familiar emblem was reimagined in the bold geometric language of Art Deco, its distinctive curved silhouette lending itself beautifully to arrangements of calibre-cut coloured gemstones – Sapphires in this instance - and diamonds.
