First introduced in the 18th Century, the cushion old mine's large facets, high crowns and deeper pavilions were intended to allow the diamonds to sparkle in dimlit candlelight settings. Entirely hand cut, these diamonds utilised a large portion of the original rough. Therefore, it is exceptionally rare for old mine diamonds over 3 carats to come to market.
