 Description

Mauve star sapphire and diamond cluster ring. Set to centre with an oval cabochon natural unenhanced mauve star sapphire with an approximate weight of 27.77 carats in an open back claw setting, further set with twenty three round eight cut diamonds in open back grain settings with an approximate combined weight of 0.70 carats, to an extremely ornate pierced openwork cluster form with repeating pattern motifs, featuring millegrain edging and open backholing, the raised trumpeting shoulders tapering down to a solid engraved shank. Tested platinum, marked 'C&VR', numbered '3836', American, circa 1920.

 Comments

As is the case with all coloured stones, the colour is paramount, and the most important quality factor. In addition to this, the most valued star stones display strong and straight white rays, with a centred star that floats smoothly across the surface with the right light source. Only superior cutting, as exhibited with this piece, will release a gem’s beauty, with the finest star stones cut and polished as symmetrical and well-balanced cabochons.
