A. Tillander was established by Alexander Tillander in Russia in 1860. As a young man, Tillander trained under the German master Carl Becks, a prominent supplier to the Russian Imperial Court. At just 23 years old, Tillander opened his first shop in the heart of St. Petersburg. His business quickly gained a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship, producing exquisite classical revival jewellery, objects d’art crafted from precious materials, and pieces showcasing the rare Russian gemstone, demantoid garnet.

By the early 20th century, A. Tillander had become a thriving enterprise. However, the Second Russian Revolution of 1917 brought turbulent times, forcing the family to rebuild. Alexander Tillander’s son relocated to Finland, where he re-established the company in Helsinki. Today, A. Tillander remains a prestigious name in jewellery, proudly operated by the fourth generation of the Tillander family.
