Ancient Roman gold ring with helmet intaglio. Set with an oval cornelian intaglio finely engraved with a helmet in a closed back collet setting, encircled by a fine wirework border, all to a slim flat shank. Tested yellow gold, approximately 2.4g in weight, circa 3rd century AD.
As this intaglio is engraved with the image of a helmet, it is possible that this ring would have been worn by the wife or daughter of a Roman soldier as a memento whilst he was away from home.
