 Comments

Slender gold wire twisting within like tree vines to the earth, represent a profound symbol of existence in Viking mythology. Although the source of this interconnected journey was longstanding in Norse culture as represented by The World Tree, Yggdrasil, the inspiration for this delicate craftsmanship was only brought to life following the Vikings expansion to England via the Lindisfarne raid - the first documented raid, now used to mark the beginner of the age.

This cross-culture influence saw Anglo-Saxon and Celtic knot-work, spiral techniques fused with Viking ideals. Now this museum quality ring not only directly represents the cyclical nature of existence through Norse mythology, but is an artifact of the Viking age's defining event and the fusion of cultures that followed.

The British Museum's 10th-11th century AD comparable holding, helps strengthen our understanding of this interconnected design. Acquired in 1922 and previously lent for exhibition by Museum für Vor-und Frühgeschichte in Berlin, and Museum of Denmark in Copenhagen.
