Victorian crescent . Set with a round diamond in an setting with a weight of 0.50 , further set with sixteen round old mine of graduating sizes in open back cut down settings with a combined weight of 2.20 carats, and additionally set with two round diamonds in cut down settings with a combined weight of 0.02 carats. The total approximate diamond weight is 2.72 carats, to an elegant crescent brooch with finely pierced and shaped backholing, fitted to reverse with a secure hinged pin and scroll clasp, approximately 3cm in width. yellow gold and , 1880, accompanied by a fitted box.

Throughout the 19th century, British astronomers made many advances in the sphere of astronomy and cosmology. The appearance of the Great Comets of 1843 and 1882 that remained for months burning in the skies above England contributed to the Victorian fascination with heavenly bodies. Celestial designs were a common feature in jewellery during this era, with stars, crescents, and sunbursts playing into the relatively new fascination for the science of cosmology.
