Suzanne Belperron was one of the most influential designers of the 20th century. Her avant-garde jewels are highly sought-after by collectors, and are characterised by highly innovative, rounded, sculptural forms. Belperron did not sign her pieces, insisting that her unique style was her signature.

This particular ring takes inspiration from Belperron's knowledge of the African craft industry, as seen in her use of the martelage, or 'hammering' technique to create the textured patina. Her own engagement ring, dating to 1923, also features this hammered appearance and is set with an old mine diamond.

This ring was manufactured by Darde Compagnie, a Parisian manufacturer Belperron worked with throughout her career.
