This ring was discovered in the North Norfolk village of Trunch in September 2024 by a metal detector. It was found just 50 meters from a gold signet ring bearing the coat of arms of the Ward family who owned and lived on the land at the time of this ring's creation. The Ward family have strong links to Admiral Nelson, with his daughter, Horatia Nelson, marrying Phillip Ward in 1822.

John King was first apprenticed as a goldsmith in 1750 to Henry Brind and later William Shaw. King's maker's mark can be seen from 1775, and he was based in several premises around the Moor Lane area in the City of London until at least 1800. His son, Joseph, followed in his footsteps, and was recorded as his apprentice in 1780.

This posy motto was a stock favourite, with several different versions of the phrase being catalogued in 'English Posies and Posy Rings', Evans, J., 1931, p.68-69.
