Founded in Philadelphia in 1839 by master silversmith James Emmot Caldwell, J.E. Caldwell & Co. became one of America's most prestigious jewellers. Renowned for their fine craftsmanship and European-inspired designs, the firm captured the elegance and extravagance of the Belle Époque and Art Nouveau eras, creating romantic, richly detailed jewels for America's fashionable elite.

Following decades of success, the company was sold to Canadian jewellers Henry Birks & Sons and subsequently acquired by Carlyle & Co. in 1992. Despite its illustrious heritage, the flagship Philadelphia store closed in 2003, with the remaining branches following in 2009, bringing an end to one of America's great jewellery houses.
