Edwardian diamond three stone ring. Set to centre with a round old cut diamond in an open back claw setting with an approximate weight of 1.25 carats, in an open back claw setting, flanked by two round old cut diamonds in open back claw settings with a combined weight of 2.00 carats. The total approximate diamond weight is 3.25 carats, to an elegant graduating three stone design featuring curving claws, an intricately pierced gallery and circular open backholing, leading to inwardly tapering shoulders with chenier detail which flow through to a solid D-shape shank. Tested yellow gold and platinum, circa 1910.

The round old cut, sometimes referred to as the old European cut, originated in the late 19th century as a result of two major events that changed the course of stone cutting forever. Characterised by its round outline, small table and high crown, it evolved from the cushion old mine cut which had been popular since the 18th century.
