 Description

Diamond coronet cluster ring. Set to centre with a round transitional cut diamond in an open back grain setting with an approximate weight of 0.30 carats, encircled by eight round transitional cut diamonds in open back grain settings with a combined approximate weight of 0.32 carats, flanked further by six round eight cut diamonds in open back grain settings with a combined approximate weight of 0.06 carats. The total approximate diamond weight is 0.68 carats, to an elegant coronet cluster design featuring scalloped borders and polished edges, supported by an intricately pierced gallery featuring chenier details and fancy backholing, leading to slightly trumpeting shoulders which feature a decorative millegrain design, continuing to a solid D-shape shank. Marked 18 carat white gold, settings tested platinum, engraved 'X646', maker's mark 'A.W.C & S. Ltd' for Arthur Walter Crosbee & Sons Limited, Birmingham, English, circa 1940s.

'A.W.C & S.Ltd' for Arthur Walter Crosbee & Sons Ltd, was founded in 1902 by A. W. Crosbee and initially traded under the name A.W. Crosbee & Co. The firm was renamed to, 'A.W. C & Sons Ltd.' sometime between 1911 and 1926. They were located on 7 Vyse Street Birmingham and continued to trade there until the late 1940s when they closed down. A newspaper advertisment from 1949 shows a selection of rings made by the company in a similar style.
