Burmese ruby and diamond five stone ring. Set with three cushion shape old cut natural no heat Burmese rubies in an open back claw setting with a combined approximate weight of 1.50 carats, flanked by two cushion shape old mine diamonds in open back grain settings with a combined approximate weight of 0.90 carats and adorned by eight round rose cut diamonds in open back grain settings with a combined weight of 0.08 carats. The total approximate diamond weight is 0.98 carats, to a carved half hoop design featuring curving claws, an intricately carved gallery with scrolling motifs and pierced open backholing, leading split carved shoulders which flow through to a solid D-shape shank. Tested yellow gold, numbered '556', circa 1890, accompanied by Gemmological Certification Services (GCS) report #5786-2361.

Unheated Burmese rubies are exceptionally rare and today are seen predominantly in antique jewellery; while Burmese material is characteristically vivid pinkish-red in tone, richly saturated true red stones such as these are extraordinarily uncommon.
