Renaissance ring. Set with a square diamond in a setting with an approximate weight of 0.90 , to a raised pyramid shaped central with fine scalloped double arches and pelleted border to base, incised saltire to the underside and flanked by ornate carved with elevated scrolling openwork flourishes, all with traces of white, blue and red intact, and leading through to a solid . yellow , approximately 7.2g in weight, 16th century, accompanied by an Oxford Labs X-ray report stating the composition of the metal.

Chairman's Notes

Renaissance jewels were known for their highly ornamented and colourful appearance, with both gemstones and enamel used to achieve this. Traces of red, blue and white enamelling can be seen on this ring, hinting at its original brightly coloured aesthetic. See British Museum acquisition number 1872,0604.425 for a ring of comparable age and style.
