 Description

Padparadscha Ceylon sapphire and diamond flanked solitaire ring. Set to centre with an oval mixed cut natural unenhanced Padparadscha Ceylon sapphire in an open back claw setting with a weight of 3.07 carats, flanked by tapering baguette cut diamonds in open back part rubover settings with a combined approximate weight of 0.35 carats, to an elegant flanked solitaire design featuring curving claws, an intricately pierced gallery and fancy shape open backholing, leading to smooth shoulders and flowing through to a solid D-shape shank. Tested rose gold, accompanied by Gem Research SwissLab (GRS) report #GRS2021-119532.

 Expert opinion

This sapphire has been assessed by Gemresearch SwissLab as being a natural unheated sapphire of the Padparadscha variety, originating from Ceylon.

 Comments

Beautiful and beguiling, Padparadscha sapphires are a particularly special variety of the corundum (sapphire) family.

Renowned for their delicate and unique colour, which is a blend of pink and orange, their name is derived from the Sinhalese word 'padmaraga' referring to the colour of a lotus flower. Historically only found in Ceylon, which is also known as "the jewel box of the Indian Ocean", Padparadscha's are the rarest of colours that are sapphires are naturally found in.
