 Comments

The Birks family dates back to the 16th century in Sheffield England, where the family were master silversmiths. It is with knowledge rooted in English craftsmanship, passed down from generation to generation, that Henry Birks open his first boutique in 1879 in Montreal, Canada.

By 1893, Henry Birks’ 3 sons (William, John and Gerald) became involved in the business and the firm became known as Henry Birks and Sons.

A purveyor of exquisite silverware and fine jewellery, Maison Birks have earned strong praise and accolades for their high standards in craftsmanship, and were even awarded a Royal Warrant to supply British royalty in 1934.

In 1907, Birks opened their flagship store on Square Phillips in Montreal. The iconic Montreal store with its signature blue doors still operates today and has become a coveted landmark of the city of Montreal.
