Ruby and diamond cocktail ring. Set with a round old cut natural unenhanced ruby in an open back yellow gold rubover setting with a weight of 0.40 carats, a round old cut diamond in an open back platinum rubover setting with a weight of 0.35 carats, flanked by three rows of round rose cut diamonds in grain and rubover settings, all fourteen with a combined weight of 0.25 carats, and two rows of channel set natural unenhanced square calibre cut rubies in open back rubover settings with a combined weight of 0.15 carats. The total approximate diamond weight is 0.60 carats, and the total approximate ruby weight is 0.55 carats, to a heavy curving yellow gold sculpted form with piercing work and intricate square backholing, with tapered shoulders to a solid flat shank. Marked 18 carat yellow gold and platinum, French, circa 1940.
