Description

Saxon garnet solitaire ring. Set to centre with a flat circular garnet in a closed back rubover setting, to a solitaire design featuring granulation beading to the cardinal points, polished edges and closed backholing flowing through to a smooth conforming solid double twist filigree band. Tested yellow gold, circa 8th-10th century AD, accompanied by a letter from former owner detailing descent.

Formerly part of the Westby collection, Hertfordshire, UK.
