Posy ring 'B I love and like my choice M'. A smooth conforming D-shape band, engraved to the interior in italic script 'B I love and like my choice M', approximately 3.6mm in width. Tested yellow gold, maker's mark 'ES' within a rectangular punchmark, approximately 3g in weight, circa 17th century.
Accompanied by documentation from the Portable Antiquities Scheme stating that this ring was found in Manston, Kent, UK 2015. It is recorded with the Portable Antiquities Scheme under reference KENT-20670D; and disclaimed under the Treasure Act, reference 2015T336.
The mark 'ES' is recorded for goldsmith Edward Stammers, with first mark entered 1816, see 'London Goldsmiths 1697-1837 Their Marks and Lives', Grimwade, A.G., 1976, p.56 and 669. This posy was a stock favourite, with several different versions of the same phrase being catalogued in 'English Posies and Posy Rings', Evans, J., 1931, p.55.
