Description

Early Victorian buckle locket ring. A smoothly conforming flat band with buckle detail and intricate engraved scrolling decoration around the full circumference, with two hinged panels which open to reveal space for a small keepsake, approximately 5.6mm in width. Tested yellow gold, circa 1840.

To the Victorians, the buckle motif would have symbolised strength, protection and fidelity due to the fact that the belt loops around creating a symbol of eternity- the circle.
