Description

Byzantine gold open architectural ring. An ornate gold ring raised to the centre with a circular three dimensional structure, mounted to top with a golden sphere surrounded by granule decoration, the structure featuring repeating pierced open archways, each finished with a double ribbed border and textured edges, flanked by slightly inward tapering shoulders with additional granulation and grained borders which continue to a wide shank. Tested yellow gold, approximately 4.7g in weight, circa 8th-10th century AD, accompanied by an Oxford Labs X-ray fluorescence report stating the composition of the metal.
