Art Nouveauruby, sapphire and diamond ring. Set with a drop shape old cutnatural unenhanced sapphire in an open backclaw setting with an approximate weight of 0.50 carats, further set with a a drop shape old cut natural unenhanced ruby in an open back claw setting with an approximate weight of 0.50 carats, further adorned with an oval old cut diamond in an open back claw setting with an approximate weight of 0.30 carats, surrounded by four cushion shape old cut diamonds in open back claw settings with a combined weight of 0.16 carats, flanked by eight cushion shape single cut diamonds in open back grain settings with a combined weight of 0.24 carats. The total approximate diamond weight is 0.70 carats, to an elegant vertical openwork cluster with curving claws, a finely pierced gallery and fancy backholing, the smoothly conforming shoulders leading through to a solid ridged flat shank. Marked 18 carat yellow gold, French, circa 1895.
