Antique opal and diamond ring. Centrally set with one oval cabochon natural unenhanced opal in an open back claw setting with an approximate weight of 1.30 carats, surrounded by a single row of fourteen round old cut diamonds in open back cutdown settings with a combined approximate weight of 1.40 carats, to an elegant coronet cluster with scalloped edging, intricately pierced gallery and circular backholing, flanked to either side with inwardly tapering shoulders leading down to a solid D-shape shank. Tested yellow gold with silver settings, numbered '729', circa 1890.
