Description

Antique Burmese ruby and diamond ring. Set to centre with an oval old cut Burmese unheated and unenhanced ruby in an open back claw setting with an approximate weight of 1.50 carats, encircled by two rows of round old cut diamonds, the inner row in open back claw settings and the outer row in open back grain and rubover settings, all thirty eight with an approximate weight of 2.60 carats. The cluster takes an ornate openwork form with outward pointed motifs to top and bottom on the outer row and step up settings to alternate diamonds, conforming smoothly to the finger with intricate pierced backholing, leading down the shoulders to a yellow gold tapered D-shape shank. Tested yellow gold with platinum settings, circa 1900, accompanied by Gem & Pearl Laboratory report #07247.
