Ancient Roman gold earrings with bead drops. A matching pair of earrings, each composed of a circular disk with decorative wirework coils to center and beaded wire border, suspending three articulated wire drops with blue, green and red beads, fitted to reverse with a secure modern hook with safety clasp, approximately 4.8cm in length to top of hook. Tested yellow gold, approximately 4.2g in weight, circa 1st-3rd century AD.
These earrings have been fitted with modern yellow gold shepherd's hook fittings so that they can be worn today without affecting their historical integrity.
Complete matching earrings such as these are a rare survival from the ancient world. These earrings are a testament to the high level of skill of the craftsmen of the time and are in fine condition commensurate with their age.
