Ancient Roman gold earrings. A matching pair, each set with a circular domed plaque to a fine twisted wire ellipsoid hoop with closed-end fastening, suspending a spherical blue glass bead from a slender wireworkdrop, fitted to reverse with a secure modern hook with safety clasp, approximately 5.2cm in length to top of hook. Tested yellow gold, circa 1st-2nd century AD.
These earrings have been fitted with modern yellow gold shepherd's hook fittings so that they can be worn today without affecting their historical integrity.
Complete matching earrings such as these are a rare survival from the ancient world. These earrings are a testament to the high level of skill of the craftsmen of the time and are in fine condition commensurate with their age.
