Ancient Roman gold and glass inlaid earrings. A matching pair, each inlaid with a drop shape piece of red glass in a closed backrubover setting, to an openwork ear pendant decoratively enhanced with fine beadwork and wirework details, and set to the bottom with a single gold granule, approximately 3.4cm in length. Tested yellow gold, circa 1st-3rd century AD.
Complete matching earrings such as these are a rare survival from the ancient world. These earrings are a testament to the high level of skill of the craftsmen of the time and are in fine condition commensurate with their age.
