Ancient Roman beaded drop earrings. A matching pair, each set to centre with a cylindrical green glass bead, fitted to the centre of an opework circular design featuring radiating decorative scrolling, elongated rectangular plaque to bottom suspending three articulated drops with an additional three green glass beads held in place by an intricate curving scroll, fitted to reverse with a secure shepherd's hook, approximately 3.6cm in length. Tested yellow gold, circa 2nd century AD. Complete matching earrings with beaded details, such as these are a rare survival from the ancient world. These earrings are a testament to the high level of skill of the craftsmen of the time and are in fine condition commensurate with their age.
