Description

An important early Bulgari ring. Set centrally with an impressive oval old cut citrine in an open back rubover setting with an approximate weight of 25.00 carats, further encircled with six round and drop shape old cut natural unenhanced Burmese rubies with a combined approximate weight of 0.45 carats, interspersed with six cushion shape old mine diamonds in open back grain settings with a combined weight of 0.60 carats, to an impressive Bulgari piece showcasing ornate detail throughout, a carved gallery and open backholing, flanked by broad integrated openwork shoulders showcasing carved winged cherub motifs flowing through to a broad solid D-shape band with floral motifs. Marked 18 carat yellow gold, makers mark 'SB' for Sotirio Bulgari, engraved 'S.BULGARI XII . MCMXXV' for December 1925, Italian, circa 1925

Sotirio died in 1932, and his sons, Giorgio and Constantino changed the maison's mark to “BVLGARI,” using the traditional Roman alphabet.

This rare ring is an early piece by Bulgari, handcrafted under the founder Sotirio Bulgari, and showcasing master craftsmanship. Original early pieces are incredibly rare and highly sought after. This piece was made as a special commission for someone inside the Vatican.
