Star ruby and diamond coronet cluster. Set to center with one natural no heat oval cabochon ruby in an open back claw setting with an approximate weight of 4.95 carats, encircled by twenty cushion old mine diamond in open back claw settings with a combined approximate weight of 0.60 carats, to an elegant coronet cluster design featuring stylised claws, an intricately pierced gallery and fancy open backholing leading to solid carved shoulders and flowing through to a solid D shape shank. Tested yellow gold, circa 1900.

A star ruby is a phenomenal gemstone which displays a shimmering six pointed star when viewed under a light source. The star effect or 'asterism' is caused by minute needle-like rutile inclusions within the gemstone. Natural, unenhanced star rubies are very rare.
