 Description

Victorian diamond coronet cluster ring. Set to centre with a cushion shape old mine diamond, J colour, I1 clarity, with a weight of 1.37 carats, in a open back claw setting, surrounded by ten cushion shape old mine diamonds in open back claw settings with a combined approximate weight of 1.00 carat. The total approximate diamond weight is 2.37 carats, to an elegant coronet cluster design featuring curving claws, an intricately pierced gallery and fancy shape open backholing, leading to conforming shoulders with ridged detail and flowing through to a tapered shank. Tested yellow gold, circa 1880, accompanied by Gemological Institute of America (GIA) report #2239052146.

 Comments

The coronet cluster design is composed of a larger central gemstone encompassed by a row of smaller gemstones, visually representing a small crown or as its name suggests a coronet. Variations of this design using gemstones can be seen from as early as the Georgian period. Valued for their timeless elegance and versatility, they are a popular choice for various occasions, from engagements to everyday wear.

This is a particularly fine example featuring old mine diamonds which hail from the historic diamond reserves of India or Brazil. With a beautiful scintillation of light, these stones would have been cut and faceted by hand, making each one an individual treasure.
