Victorian sphene and earrings. A matching pair each set to bottom with a round sphene in an setting, two in total with a combined approximate weight of 5.15 , set to top with one shape diamond in an open back setting, two in total, with a combined weight of 1.75 carats, further set with seven cushion shape old mine in open back cut-down settings, fourteen in total with a combined weight of 0.75 carats. The total approximate diamond weight is 2.50 carats, to an elegant articulated drop earring flowing with movement featuring claw and settings, an intricately pierced and open backholing, fitted with a secure hook and clip fastening, approximately 3.7cm in length. yellow with settings, 1880.

Chairman's Notes

Sphene was first discovered in 1795 in the Ural Mountains of Russia by German mineralogist Abraham Gottlob Werner. Sphene is also called 'titanite' and has rich body colours, strong trichroism, and a fire that exceeds that of diamonds.
