 Comments

Often described by as “emerald by day, ruby by night,” alexandrite is the very rare colour-change variety of the mineral chrysoberyl. This gemstone was originally discovered in Russia’s Ural Mountains in the 1830s, and was named after Czar Alexander II. Alexandrite deposits were later discovered in Ceylon, known as the “jewel box of the Indian Ocean”.

Alexandrite is considered one of the most coveted and rarest gemstones in the world. Fine examples displaying a clear colour change, strong saturation and good clarity are highly sought after by gem collectors and jewellery-enthusiasts the world over.
