This term, "Imperial Topaz", strictly refers to stones with intense, saturated colors within this narrow spectrum, and is highly sought after by gem collectors.

The term "Imperial" is thought to originate from two main theories: one links it to Russian Tsars, who reserved the finest Ural mountain topaz for royalty, while the other attributes it to Brazil’s Emperor Peter II, who received a reddish topaz in 1881.
