Director's Notes

Yellow sapphire cluster ring. Centrally set with an oval shape old cut natural no heat yellow sapphire in an open back claw setting with an approximate weight of 4.20 carats, adorned forty-two round rose cut diamonds in closed back grain settings with an approximate weight of 0.42 carats to an impressive cluster design featuring millegrain edging, intricate openwork, and open and closed backholing, leading to integrated shoulders with ridged detailing which flow through to a solid D-shape shank. Tested rose gold and silver, Italian, circa 1900.

In 1934 Italy revised their hallmark system, and between this date and 1938 transitional marks were in use. The star marking that can be seen on this ring was applied to all pre-existing items of both gold and silver to allow them to be legally traded.
