The chequerboard design in jewellery and other contexts is a powerful symbol with multiple layers of meaning, often reflecting concepts of duality, balance, and order.
During the Victorian period, the checkerboard design in jewellery was one of the motifs that gained popularity as part of a wider trend of symbolic and meaningful decoration.
The checkerboard design, with its alternating colours would have resonated with themes of duality and harmony, complementing the era’s fascination with symbolism and spirituality in jewellery.
