Sapphire and diamond five stone ring. Set with three cushion shape old cut natural no heat sapphires in open back grain settings with a combined approximate weight of 0.40 carats, interspersed with two round old cut diamonds in open back grain settings with a combined approximate weight of 0.10 carats, to a five stone design featuring polished edges, a decoratively pierced gallery with scrolling motifs and fancy open backholing, leading to inwardly tapering shoulders which flow through to a solid D-shape shank. Marked 18 carat yellow gold, maker's mark 'W.L.' for William Lewis, full hallmarks for Birmingham, English, 1914.

William Lewis was first registered in 1897 as a chain maker and manufacturing jeweller. He was known to have two addresses, one in Northampton Street in Birmingham's jewellery quarter, and the other in Rosebery Avenue, near Hatton Garden in London.
