Burmese sapphire and diamond coronet cluster. Set to center with one rectangular step-cut natural unheated Burmese sapphire in an open back rubover setting with an approximate weight of 1.20 carats, encircled by twenty-two round eight cut diamonds in open back rubover and grain settings with a combined weight of 0.26 carats and further flanked by four round eight cut diamonds in open back grain settings with a combined weight of 0.04 carats. The total combined approximate diamond weight is 0.30 carats, to an elegant coronet cluster design featuring millegrain edges, a pierced gallery, and rounded open back holing leading to solid shoulders and flowing through to a solid D-shape shank. Marked 18 carat gold and platinum, circa 1915, accompanied by Gemmological Certification Services report #5786-3057.

Beautiful blue sapphires have been unearthed for over 1000 years in the old Burmese mines, and are a rare occurrence amongst a sea of rubies. Highly coveted for their rich blue hue, the exceptional qualities of these sapphires have led to them becoming one of nature’s most sought after, yet elusive gems. While the majority of gemstones mined in Burma are rubies, equally sought-after by connoisseurs are Burmese sapphires, which account for fewer than 10% of all material discovered in this area.

This geological origin combined with their unenhanced characteristics makes pieces like this highly sought after for collectors of fine quality rare sapphires.
