Cross over rings were first popularized in the late 18th century, when a young Napoleon presented Joséphine with a sapphire and diamond crossover engagement ring. The crossover design, also known as a ‘toi et moi’, the French for ‘you and I’, is a particularly romantic style, which has been favoured by icons including Jackie Kennedy.
