Louis Gérard founded his own company in 1968 with the support of the Comtesse de Ribes, after gaining solid experience as a Master Jeweller with Van Cleef & Arpels. His first boutique was on Avenue Montaigne, and by the late 1970s he had shops in Cannes, London, Monaco and Geneva where he delighted in entertaining his wealthy clientele with extravagant parties and shows.

Within a decade, M. Gérard had established itself as one of France's leading jewelers, renowned for luxury jewels of unrivalled quality. Atelier Andre Vassort, whom Gérard had worked with at Van Cleef & Arpels was responsible for the production of much of M. Gérard's jewellery.

The company was sold to a group of American investors in 1985 due to excessive spending. Whilst later reacquired and relaunched as Louis Gérard, Joaillier International, the company finally closed its doors permanently in 1991.

M Gérard jewels remain highly sought after, a lasting reflection of its creator's motto: yesterday's tradition, today's quality and tomorrow's creation.
