Post Medieval posy ring 'Your faithfull wife during life'. The plain D-shape band inscribed to the interior in italic script 'Your faithfull wife during life', approximately 4.5mm in width. Tested yellow gold, approximately 4.4 grams in weight, indistinct marker's mark, circa 18th century.
There is only one known example of this posy- with different spelling of the word 'during', see Evans, J. 'English Posies and Posy Ring', p. 111. At this point in history, there was no standardisation of spelling- the introduction of Dr Johnson's Dictionary, published on 15th April 1755, brought about radical change and started the process of regularising spelling.
