Set with a shape unenhanced yellow Ceylon sapphire in an setting with an approximate weight of 12.71 in open back setting, to an impressive pendant featuring an intricately pierced and fancy open backholing, fitted to top with a circular bale, accompanied by a belcher chain terminating with a secure barrel clasp, pendant approximately 1.5cm in length, chain approximately 15" in length. Pendant and chain yellow gold, English, 1890.

Our in-house gemmologist has assessed the sapphire as originating from historic old mines of Ceylon (Sri Lanka).

Whilist the famed blue sapphires are widely known, sapphires occur in wide range of colours, often referred to as "fancy colours". Among these, yellow sapphires hold a special place. In its natural unenhanced state they are rarely seen and therefore highly prized. Yellow sapphires can display a range of tones and hues, and are often eye clean. Historically, the finest specimens were sourced from old mines of Ceylon, also known as jewel box of an Indian ocean, renowned for producing stones of exceptional brilliance and quality.
