Founded in 1865 by Barnet Henry Joseph and his brother Henry Joseph, B.H. Joseph & Co. were known for their high quality jewellery throughout the Victorian and Edwardian eras.

A gypsy setting is a type of setting whereby the gemstone is sunk into its mount with the table facet flush with the mount surface. Gypsy set rings typically feature one or three stones, and was a popular Victorian setting. This piece is fully hallmarked by the Chester assay office, which closed in 1962.
