 Description

Yellow Ceylon sapphire and diamond cluster ring. Set to centre with an octagonal mixed cut natural unenhanced yellow Ceylon sapphire in an open back claw setting with an approximate weight of 3.00 carats, surrounded by fourteen round eight cut diamonds in open back grain settings with a combined approximate weight of 0.30 carats, to an impressive cluster design featuring millegrain edging, an intricately pierced gallery with geometric motifs and open backholing, leading to raised inwardly tapering shoulders which flow through to a solid D-shape shank. Mark platinum, French import marks, circa 1920, accompanied by Gemmological Certification Services report #5785-3984.

 Comments

Yellow sapphires are classified as 'fancy coloured' sapphires and are rarer than their blue counterpart. The most highly valued yellow sapphires come from the old mines of Ceylon and are especially prized for their warm golden hues. These gemstones are typically very clean, often containing few or no internal characteristics.
As the old mines are depleted, the vast majority of yellow sapphires today are heat treated to enhance the colour. Natural and unenhanced sapphires are increasingly rare and are therefore considered highly sought after among collectors, representing a unique investment opportunity.
