 Description

Roman gold cameo ring with face of Zeus. Set with a dark red stone impressive cameo of a bearded Zeus, in a closed back twisted wirework rubover collet setting, framed by beaded shoulders and wirework decoration, leading to a solid circular shank. Tested yellow gold, approximate weight 3.72g, circa 1st - 2nd century AD.

Acquired from a Swiss collection, previously from Damascus. Zeus was Greek god of the sky and thunder, identified in the Roman world with Jupiter.
